Chairman’s report

After a long and close fought contest it was my pleasure to present the first of our new winners trophies made especially for our club to League winner Dave Williams and best average prize to Simon Ingus with a very impressive 395.

Year End Final

The Christmas special final took place in the St James Hotel for the first time and all players were offered a warm welcome. We would like to thank all involved at the St James and we look forward to our next visit.

We had 40 players sitting down to battle it out for the win as well as the increased prize money. Surprisingly (to me anyway) we had early action when we lost Mavis’s daughter Jenny. And then the bad beats AA losing out to KK (we know who you are) and JJ falling to 10-10. All good fun unless it was you of course.

Out on the bubble in 9th was Richard Sheldon and the final table was formed.

The final table was made up of

Name Chip Count
Martin Isherwood 30,000
Sunny Kalcutt 15,000
Garry Tyndall 55,000
Tom Stannard 15,000
Jonathan West 85,000
Tony Hurcombe 15,000
Craig Niven 65,000
Colin Brown 135,000

Out in 8th was Garry Tyndall when both he and Tom were all in with the same chips stacks and his A-J off suit fell to Tom’s pocket 9s.

Out in 7th was Sunny Kalcutt when as short stacked and all in on the big blind his K-9 off suit ran into Colin’s pocket Qs.

Sunny deserves a special mention as this was the third final in a row that he has made the final table and that is some feat. Well done.

Year End Final

Out in 6th and in the same hand as Sunny was Martin Isherwood when he too was all in and unfortunately had the same hand of K-9 off suit and out to Colin’s pocket Qs.

The 5th place went to Tom Stannard when, in the small blind and all in as short stack, his 8-2 faced John’s pocket 7s and Tony’s pocket Js. Tony’s Js held up and Tom was out.

In 4th place was Craig Niven when he pushed with A-4 off suit came up against Colin’s K-J and despite hitting his A Colin made two pairs Ks and Js to take him out in 4th.

3rd place saw Tony Hurcombe go down to Colin when his J-6 suited fell to 5-2 off suit and with Colin pairing the 5 we were down to the last two.

John and Colin came to an agreement to share the prize money and call and end to the tournament and with Colin having a significant chip advantage Colin was declared the winner of the Christmas Final.

Very well played by both of them.
