MARCH 2011 FINAL

Played April 9th 2011 at Glevum, Gloucester

Another good turnout for this month’s Final of 40 players from the 51 qualifiers at the Glevum. Most noticeable was the presence of ‘Ginge’ in full-length tiger costume (only wish I’d thought to photograph him), pity his poker skills didn’t match his style!

The pre-match presentations were made for winning the league for the 2nd month running to Sunny Kalcutt (7500 pts) and to Mike Cox for the highest average (579 pts in 7 games).

Bob Nutman, last month’s winner, was the ‘Bounty’ and again he reached the final table but his luck then failed him, going out to Carlton Cullimore who claimed the £50.

The first player out was San Kanabar and after several hours the original 5 tables were reduced to 1 when Lee Davies went out in the ‘Bubble’ leaving the following players to contest the FINAL TABLE:-

Name Chip Count

Bob Nutman

108,000

Tom Stannard

80,000

Brian Burleigh

62,000

Martin Carroll

47,000

Chris Weaver

Paul White

30,000

Carlton Cullimore

23,000

Dom Frasca

21,000

Final Positions

8th (£30) Bob Nutman – Despite being chip leader at the start of the final table Bob lost all his chips over the course of 3 hands when finally his 2 prs of Ks & 2s lost out to Carlton’s set of Ks.

7th (£40) Dom Frasca – whose pr. As lost to Paul’s set of As….

6th (£50) Paul White –  …then lost with 2 prs As & Js to Martin’s set of As.

5th (£70) Chris Weaver – whose pr. 6s were beaten by Brian’s As.

4th (£80) Carlton Cullimore – AK high beaten on the river by Tom’s Ace flush.

3rd (£110) Brian Burleigh – Also had AK high and well beaten by Tom’s Q high straight.

The final heads-up was between Tom Stannard (290,000 chips) and Martin Carroll (120,000 chips). After several hands 2nd place went to Martin Carroll (£220) whose pr. 6s were no match for Tom’s set of Aces.

WINNER – TOM STANNARD

CONGRATULATIONS!!

(Special mention should also perhaps go to 2nd placed Martin Carroll who has now finished the last 4 finals in 2nd, 4th, 1st, and 2nd places respectively, a fantastic achievement.)

Thanks also to Clive Smith for jointly running the Final with me and also to the Glevum for providing the excellent food and facilities.
