JANUARY 2011 FINAL

Played February 12 2011 at The Orchard, Quedgeley, Gloucester

There were only 46 qualifiers this month so the turnout of 40 players contesting the Final at the Orchard was excellent. The pre-match presentations were made to Steve Hancock for winning the league (6009 pts from 18 games) and to David Williams for highest average (361 pts from 7 games).

The £50 bounty was on Martin Simmons (‘Simmo’) who survived to the final table before being taken out eventually by Barry Owen. The first player out was Simon Inglis and after several hours’ play Richard Sheldon went out in the Bubble leaving the following players to contest the FINAL TABLE:-

8th (£30) Brian Burleigh – came 3rd with his pr. of 10s against Andy’s JJ & Simmo’s KK.

7th (£40) Ashley Philp – whose pr. 10s were no match for Andy’s Ace flush.

6th (£50) Tina Powell – who only had AK high against Simmo’s prs. of As & Ks.

5th (£70) Martin Simmons – finally lost the ‘bounty’ with his AK high to Barry’s pr. 10s

4th (£80) Barry Owen – then went out with only pr. 3s to Martin’s full house of Aces/3s.

3rd (£110) Andy Jones – whose pr. 10s were well beaten by Martin’s 2 prs of Qs & 6s.

The final heads-up was between Sunny Kalcutt (100,000 chips) and Martin Carroll (270,000 chips) and after a fairly short battle 2nd place went to Sunny Kalcutt having agreed to split the prize money (£360 each) with the WINNER - MARTIN CARROLL , with the winning hand of 2 prs of Aces & 2s.

Congratulations to Martin who went one better than his 2nd place in last month’s Rollover Final. Thanks also to Steve & Jean for their usual efficient running of the Final and to the Orchard for the excellent facilities.
